Ericeira (World Surfing Reserve): The crown jewel of European surfing. Even if you don’t surf, the "vibe" here—barefoot luxury, organic cafes, and sunset cliffs—is unmatched.
Nazaré (The Big Wave Giant): Famous for the 100ft winter waves, but in summer, it’s a traditional, sun-drenched fishing village with incredible cliff top views.
Lagos & Costa Vicentina: For those who want the rugged, wild Algarve. Think hidden coves like Praia do Camilo and the vast, wind-swept sands of Arrifana and Praia do Amado.
2. THE RIVER GEMS: Fresh Water & Hidden Valleys
Loriga River Beach (Serra da Estrela): Often called the "Portuguese Switzerland," this beach is nestled in a glacial valley. It’s crystal clear, freezing, and utterly breathtaking.
Fragas de São Simão (Figueiró dos Vinhos): A hidden gem in Central Portugal. Steep schist cliffs and a wooden walkway lead you to a deep, emerald swimming hole.
Alcoutim (Guadiana River): Visit during the Contraband Festival (March/April or Summer events) to see the historic cross-border link with Spain. It features a unique river beach and a zip-line that crosses into another country!
3. THE ICONIC WALKS: Passadiços do Paiva
For the ultimate scouting "active day," head to Arouca. The Passadiços do Paiva is an 8km wooden walkway through a UNESCO Geopark. You’ll walk alongside white-water rapids, cross suspension bridges, and end at a river beach to cool off.
